Lots is made of simplicity of design when it comes to Internet apps. Google was one of the leaders in this space with its spare user interface. I remember reading somewhere that the UI was of necessity because Sergey and Larry did not know HTML. Not too often that a lack of skills plays a part in building a $160 billion company.
