Wiki paralysis and the community content generation cycle
Nov 21st, 2007 by Martin Schneider
I have been involved with the creation of wikis over the years, and have always run into a feeling of paralysis at the onset. So I was wondering if others had this issue. When I first got involved as one of the creators of the CRM 2.0 Wiki about two years ago (which is a great project that I recommend anyone in the CRM world checks out or even participates in), the process seemed really slow at first. Frankly, I didn’t know where to start…it was like trying to start a novel or other long work it seemed.
But in time the content grew, and more contributors started adding great content I could edit, add to,and also learn from.
I guess the key thing to remember is - patience. It sometimes takes a while for a community-driven project to gain critical mass. But then, second tier and third tier contributors catch wind of it, and start bettering the content already there, and the viral effect grew.
But of course, you also can’t be afraid to take those blind first steps on your own. As we at Sugar release the Module Builder concept - I am looking forward to see who takes the first steps, and how, in using the platform tools to bring CRM into new areas of the enterprise.
