Two Steps Forward, One Step Back…

I just left a comment on the following blog post about “green energy.” Essentially the post is about diesel engines getting VC investment - as a reaction to the green movement.
Personally, I was annoyed by the consideration that a more efficient, yet still dependent on petro-fuel engine was considered “green.” Continuing to invest in fossil fuel engines is simply prolonging our issues.
There are far better solutions, and even Shai Agassi (my favorite ex-SAP big shot) has been heading up an electric car initiative which I feel has some legs (or would that be wheels?). He’s chronicling the endeavor in an entertaining blog.
Now, no post of mine would be complete without bringing some software analysis into a seemingly random thought. So, here goes…
I see the old proprietary CRM players in much the same way as Big Oil: they are on the way out thanks to out-dated, expensive and innefficient models that do not easily allow for re-use.
Now, open source CRM on the other hand is built on more modern and open components, less expensive and its flexible nature allows for easy code re-use.
Mr. Gore’s reaction after being asked what he thinks of LAMP stack apps…he then ducked into a stretch Toyota Prius…
