Interoperability is a Technology Isssue, Not A Cultural One…

Funny conversation I just had with an analyst…
We were talking about SugarExchange and how it supports SugarCRM as a platform play. And I was talking about some of the ways SugarCRM as a core intereaction paltform could be enhanced, mentioned that Scalix is up there for email, and LoopFuse for Marketing, etc. And the analyst asked an interesting question about how we “choose” to add products to the Exchange.
The question was hinting that only open source products are up on SugarExchange…which is not true. Sure, LoopFuse may be considered by most to be the “open source Eloqua“ but in reality we expect to have Eloqua integrations to SugarCRM as well as LoopFuse. A successful business model and successful CRM platform cannot draw cultural lines, especially when the technology is available to integrate easily between open source and proprietary products. The way we see it, the most important thing is that the customers’ processes are seamless no matter what systems are involved.
The false notion that SugarCRM would lean towards open source providers to the detriment of others that can extend the value of our product tells me there’s a lot of misconceptions still out there about how open source apps vendors operate.
