I think your comments are spot on, and the straight answer is yes. To take it even further, the customer needs to be central to the company thinking. The next step is Customer Co-Creation, something articulated quite well by Graham Hill - in his post 	http://j.mp/scrmccc . Some would say that the extended relationship with the company is as valuable as the product being purchased - I am not there yet, but working on it.
